On the property, you can also find a 25-meter swimming pool, four platform tennis courts, a state-of-the-art fitness center, a four-lane bowling alley, a card room, and a barbershop.
Overbrook is not just a golf club, but a social club that feels like family. The dedicated culture of excellence and tradition is what sets the club apart from others, making it a great choice of venue for your wedding day.
History of Overbrook
In 1900, Overbrook Golf Club was built at the Wistar Morris Estate with a 9 hole course and clubhouse. When the golf course became too small to accommodate all of the members on the waiting list, Donald Ross was engaged as the architect to build an eighteen-hole course. The new golf course opened on May 29, 1920, on the grounds presently occupied by the Lankenau Hospital.
In the late 1940s, the club decided they needed new land so they could continue to expand. They acquired the Van Horn Ely Estate on September 19, 1950, which is where it currently lies, and officially opened on May 30, 1952. The Manor House located on the Estate, known originally as “Hardwicke” and which is now the Clubhouse, was originally constructed in 1913 by Herbert L. Clark and later purchased by Clarence H. Geist in 1933 to give to his daughter, Elizabeth, as a wedding gift. The mansion is one of the best examples of French Loire Valley Chateau architecture in the Philadelphia area.
The Venue
With amazing spaces and unique touches of history, Overbrook is a stand-out location. With 10 different event spaces, they have the ability to accommodate an intimate dinner party or weddings of up to 250 people. As a popular seasonal amenity, they offer the back patio overlooking Overbrook’s sculptured back nine for ceremonies and the cocktail reception.
If you are hosting a winter wedding the classically decorated indoor bar called the Hunt Room, along with the Living Room and Solarium are utilized for the cocktail reception. They also act as a great backup for a rainy day! Each room has beautiful touches like wood finishes, warm fireplaces, intricate furniture, historic pieces, and stunning chandeliers.
The bridal suite is the ideal spot to get ready for your special day. Get your hair and makeup done on-site, take beautiful photos putting on your dress, and gather with your bridesmaids while listening to your favorite music.
The grounds surrounding the Clubhouse offer beautiful spots for some of the best photography. Explore the four platform tennis courts and six Har-Tru tennis courts. You can see some of the most wonderful sunsets from the back patio along with the gardens and it will be a picture worth framing!
